What is Premarin Cream? Uses and Side Effects

Premarin Cream

Premarin Vaginal Cream (conjugated estrogens) is a mixture of estrogen hormones, a female sex hormone produced by the ovaries, used to treat the vaginal symptoms of menopause such as dryness, burning, irritation, and painful sexual intercourse.

Premarin Vaginal Cream is clinically proven to relieve moderate to severe painful intercourse caused by menopausal changes. Unlike over-the-counter treatments, it works by delivering estrogens directly to the source of the pain, to help rebuild vaginal tissue and make intercourse more comfortable.

With Premarin Vaginal Cream, you’re not taking a hormone pill. It’s a hormone-based cream applied vaginally. You simply apply a blueberry-sized dose with a special applicator directly to the affected area.

Uses of Premarin Cream

This medication is a female hormone. It is used by women to help reduce vaginal symptoms of menopause (such as vaginal dryness/burning/itching). These symptoms are caused by the body making less estrogen. When treating only vaginal symptoms of menopause, products applied directly inside the vagina (such as this medication) should be used first. Estrogens that are taken by mouth, absorbed through the skin, or injected may have greater risks of side effects due to more estrogen being absorbed.

How to use Premarin Cream With Applicator

Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start using this medication and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Use this medication as directed by your doctor. Fill the applicator with the medication according to the directions. Insert the applicator high into the vagina and press the plunger to release the medication. Clean the applicator with warm soapy water and rinse well. Do not boil or use hot water to clean the applicator.

The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.

Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. Follow your dosing schedule carefully. Do not increase your dose or use this medication more often or for a longer time than directed.

Premarin Cream Cost

This Premarin Vaginal price guide is based on using the Drugs.com discount card which is accepted at most U.S. pharmacies. The cost for Premarin Vaginal vaginal cream with applicator (0.625 mg/g) is around $398 for a supply of 30 grams, depending on the pharmacy you visit. Prices are for cash paying customers only and are not valid with insurance plans.

Important: When there is a range of pricing, consumers should normally expect to pay the lower price. However, due to stock shortages and other unknown variables we cannot provide any guarantee.

Premarin Cream Dosage

Generally, when estrogen is prescribed for a postmenopausal woman with a uterus, a progestin should also be considered to reduce the risk of endometrial cancer.

A woman without a uterus does not need a progestin. In some cases, however, hysterectomized women with a history of endometriosis may need a progestin [see Warnings and Precautions (5.3, 5.15)].

Use of estrogen-alone, or in combination with a progestin, should be with the lowest effective dose and for the shortest duration consistent with treatment goals and risks for the individual woman. Postmenopausal women should be re-evaluated periodically as clinically appropriate to determine if treatment is still necessary.
